The Southern Poverty Law Center took the lead in suing the Anoka-Hennepin schools over the district's "neutrality" policy on student sexual orientation and curriculum. The center argued the policy failed to protect gay students from bullying and harassment.
The center today said it welcomed the school board's review of proposed changes to district policy.
The students and families are pleased that the school board is reevaluating its policies. They feel that policy improvements are one important step forward in making the school district a more welcoming environment for all students. We are unable to comment further at this time because of ongoing mediation in the lawsuit.
