Republican leaders emerged from an afternoon meeting with Gov. Mark Dayton and called for open hearings to let the public express their views on public financing for a new Vikings stadium.

"The public needs to weigh in on this," said GOP House Speaker Kurt Zellers, who told GOP colleagues earlier today that he could not support a special session this month to deal with a Vikings stadium.

Those remarks set off renewed worries among stadium supporters and Vikings officials that public financing for a stadium was again in trouble.

Pressed by reporters, Zellers said he and other leaders were still searching for a financing solution for the Vikings.
