MINNEAPOLIS - Vikings QB Tarvaris Jackson has developed at such an astonishing pace this off-season that coach Brad Childress feels that pre-season action in unnecessary for his young signal caller.

"Ummm....Tarvaris has looked so...ahhh....good that....ummm....I don't think it is worth...ahh....putting him at risk on the....ummm....field of play," Childress growled.

In 2007, Jackson took among the fewest pre-season snaps of any NFL starting QB despite his limited experience up to that point. While some have wondered what he has done to deserve such treatment, Jackson takes it all in stride.

"If you could've seen the way I handled the huddle in mini-camp, you wouldn't be coming at me with these questions," the third year QB said.

When a reporter asked if more of the team's stars, like running back Adrian Peterson, will sit out the exhibition season for similar reasons, Childress grew a bit testy.

"Ahh...Adrian is...ummm....in a battle with...ahhh....Chester Taylor for the starting....ummm....tail back position," the goateed coach explained. "Tarvaris is....ahh....the unquestioned leader of....umm...this football team."

Did anyone ask Childress' moustache for a quote?
