Upon further review, Morneau's victory even more impressive

Posted at 10:04 PM on July 16, 2008 by Steve Rudolph (2 Comments)

Having watched the replay of Justin Morneau's victory in the All-Star Home Run Derby on ESPN this evening, I'm left even more impressed with the performance of the Twins slugger.

Unlike Josh Hamilton who received meatball after meatball from 71-year-old Clay Counsil, Joe Vavra's pitches to Morneau had more movement than a Livan Hernandez's fastball.

If Morneau defends his title next year he might look for another pitcher. Wonder what Brad Radke is up to.

I was thinking the same thing last night. I missed everything but the last round during the live showing, but after watching the replay Counsil was really grooving them in there. Where as Vavra's were a little all over the place.

Morneau needs to find his own 71 year old.

I watched it too and I agree. Vavra was garbage. He wasn't just a little all over the place. He couldn't even get the ball over the plate. Half the time Morneau was swinging at balls. Vavra needs to stick to what he knows, coaching hitting. Radke would be a great choice. I doubt though that he could even get the ball over the plate with his messed up shoulder ha ha. If Slowey was available, I would get him to be my pitcher.
