They're old, they're overpaid, they're emotionless and they're in last place. They're the New York Yankees. The hundreds of Minnesota-bred, wannabee Yankee fans that will no doubt file into the Metrodome this weekend shouldn't have the usual bounce in their step. That's not to say they won't; the closest most of these punks have gotten to New York City is watching re-runs of Seinfeld on TBS, so reality is a mere nuisance to them.
But, it's really not about them. It's about "their" team. Since the Yanks last won the American League pennant in 2003, the Red Sox have won two World Series, the White Sox one, Barack Obama has gone from obscure Senate candidate to the doorstep of the White House, gas has (at least) doubled in price, the Canadian dollar has become a powerhouse and A-Rod has choked in nearly as many playoff games as the BoSox did from 1919-2003.
In case you can't tell, I am among the millions of Americans delighting in the Yankees' misery. This is it. There will be no more magical turnarounds. The Yankees aren't going to the postseason this year and they may not next year either. Read it and weep all you Eden Prairie, Apple Valley and Minnetonka Fakee fans....Reality Bites!!
