In case anyone noticed - and they probably didn't - I failed to post an entry on this blog last week. That's because I was on vacation...in Boston, to be exact. Unfortunately, the Sox weren't in town while I was there (Saturday, 5/10 through Thursday, 5/15), but I did get a chance to watch the Twins beat them 9-8 on Sunday baseball while sitting at the bar of the original Cheers.
The Hub's sports fans are more interested in the Celtics playoff run at this point. A large banner cheering on the team hung from the State House and the Celts seemed to dominate the subway conversations I was able to overhear.
On Wednesday, my wife Kyla and I toured Fenway Park which was quite a thrill for me. I have to say that Fenway is one of those rare things in life that actually lives up to the hype. It was everything I thought it would be: historic, unique and beautiful (in a baseball kind of way).
Here are a few pics if you are interested:
I closed out my glorious work-free week at the Lynx opener last night. They played with energy and intensity and actually beat the defending Eastern Conference Champion Detroit Shock 84-70. Rookies Candice Wiggins, Nicky Anosike and Charde Houston were impressive and carried the team through a rare off night from Seimone Augustus.
I know the WNBA and the Lynx are the butt of many sports-related jokes, but if you give the league and the team a chance, you might be pleasantly surprised.
