Giving Thanks

Posted at 2:45 PM on November 21, 2007 by Chris Dall

On this Thanksgiving eve, I hope everyone who read this blog has a lovely holiday, and that you all have a lot to be thankful for. One person who will shortly have many things to be thankful for is Torii Hunter, who according to Gordon Wittenmyer of the Chicago Sun Times has offers from five clubs--the Dodgers, White Sox, Nationals, Royals, and Rangers. While four of those offers are for five years, the Rangers have apparently offered Torii six years, for an undisclosed amount of money. Wittenmeyer seems to think Hunter is leaning toward the Sox, but given his home in Dallas, I'd have to think that the 6th year might sway Torii. The Twins don't seem to have budged on their initial 3-year, $45 million offer so, nice to know you, Torii.

And I hope everyone is thankful for the deal that brought us Craig Monroe, a move that seems to ensure that there won't be any major changes in approach over at Kirby Puckett Place now that Bill Smith has taken over for Terry Ryan. While I don't have a problem with trying to pick up useful players from the scrap heap, the Twins method of trying to fill major holes that way is getting a little old. But who knows, maybe Monroe will pan out, although his .256 career average and high-strikeout rate aren't good signs. But if you haven't heard, he's apparently good friends with Torii, so at least he'll be able to keep us all updated on how Torii's doing in Chicago/Texas/Kansas City/Washington/LA.

Happy Thanksgiving!
