I am inclined by nature to feel a little better about the Indians' chances in this series after game 1. Then I ran the numbers.
In the last 7 years, the Yankees have not won a division series in which they won the first game of the series. In that time, they have never lost a series in which they lost the first game of that series.
Bob, I'm no baseball guru, but stats only go so far. As a cheesehead, I was very excited to attend a playoff game at Lambeau field several years ago. All the stats were in my favor: forecast was for cold weather, and the Pack had never, EVER lost a playoff game at Lambeau. What could go wrong? Well, 'lucky' me, I got to see history being made. So while my little anecdote didn't turn out well for me, when applied to your situation, I represent the Yankees fans.
That's the thing with the Yankees. Even when they're down it still feels like they have the advantage.
Well, maybe Carmona will be as "effectively wild" as Sabathia was last night and keep the Yankee bats at bay. I'd feel a lot better about going to New York up 2-0.
