Blogging out the String...

Posted at 9:44 PM on September 12, 2007 by David Zingler

The games go on, but the season is over. That’s how it is in Twins Territory these days. As the season winds down, I’ve got a few random things on my mind:

Wave good-bye to Torii Hunter, who is almost certainly playing his final 16 games in a Twins uniform. Hunter, the last link to the turnaround Twins of the early part of this decade, will always be remembered in Twins history.

Could this also be Johan Santana’s swan song in Minnesota? All indications are that he’ll bolt when his contract expires after next season and it wouldn’t be out of the Twins character to preemptively deal the two-time Cy Young winner Kevin Garnett style. I recommend getting a ticket for his last Metrodome start this season just in case.

Will Justin Morneau ever hit his 30th homerun? The reigning AL MVP hit his 28th long ball of the season on July 23 on sits at 29 today. He drove in just 7 runs during the make-or-break month of August.

It’s never too early to wonder which over-the-hill veteran Terry Ryan plans on bringing in for 2008. Kenny Lofton to replace Hunter in center? Julio Franco to DH? Matt Stairs for some “power”? Reggie Sanders to take Rondell White’s place on the DL? Stay tuned...
