CLEVELAND – The impending free agency of Torii Hunter has been the most talked about story of the 2007 Twins season. Whether it’s talk show pundits, columnists or a bloggers, everybody seems to have an opinion about the charismatic centerfielder.

No one, of course, has discussed the matter more than Hunter himself. On the road, he gushes about the stadiums and auditions for the media. You can’t blame the guy; he’s just good at selling himself. His latest marketing strategy however, is causing controversy.

The 32-year-old released this statement earlier today: “In an effort to show the league and the fans how good I will look playing for their team, I am releasing to the public a portfolio featuring me dressed in all 30 major league baseball uniforms.”

At the ensuing conference call, a reporter from Tampa asked Hunter if he was really interested in signing with the Devil Rays, “No,” the All Star answered. “I just wanted to show the fans there how good I would look playing for them. Besides, I doubt they can put together the kind of cash it would take.”

Hunter also said he has not given up on this season and vowed to give the Twins fans and organization maximum effort during his salary drive, “I love every single person that has ever entered the Metrodome and cheered on the Twins,” he said. “If I do sign anywhere else, I’ll send each and every one of them a bottle of champagne.”
