Ok, I have to admit that I like Joe Mauer. It's more of a respect thing not a creepy high school girl crush thing.
I like that he's a great hitter. I like that he's a low key guy. I like that he's a hometown boy made good. I especially like that he will be activated on Friday.
That being said -- I don't like that he's a catcher. I'm worried that the tools of ignorance may wear the young player down, cut short a career that could see years of .330 averages and his journey to 3,000 hits. Being a catcher is tough, tough work. The knees get worn out from squatting -- not to mention that you turn into a tackling dummy everytime there's a play at the plate.
Mauer loves to catch. The pitchers seem to love the way he manages a game. But it may be time to move Joe to another position. He's a natural athlete (All American high school quarterback) who could play anywhere. He has the arm to play right field and the glove to play third. So what do you say Joe? High school girls for the next twenty years would appreciate it.
