Twins vs. Red Sox

Posted at 12:30 PM on May 4, 2007 by Chris Dall

The Boston Red Sox are coming to town this weekend, and it should be a good series for the Twins to gauge just how good a team they are, after losing two of three to the Bad News Bears, er, I mean the Tampa Bay Devil Rays. The Red Sox are 18-9 this year, and looking like they may be the team to beat in the AL East. The Twins went 5-1 against the Sox last year, and as you might recall, their three-game sweep of Boston at the Dome last June was really the kick start to their fantastic run.

Unfortunately, we won’t get to see Japanese sensation Daisuke Matsuzaka. Perhaps more unfortunate because he’s really been getting pounded lately. I don’t care if he does have six pitches. $100 million seems a bit steep for a 5.45 era and 35 hits in 38 innings. And if he continues in this direction, I fear fan reaction in Boston could lead to some sort of international incident.

In terms of pitching matchups, it’s hard to say who’s got the advantage. Tonight it's Carlos Silva going against Tim Wakefield (I’d call it a tossup), tomorrow is Johan Santana facing Julian Tavarez (adv. Twins), and Sunday is the perpetually opinionated Curt Schilling vs. the perpetually sweaty Sydney Ponson (um, that’s not in our favor).
