Radke returns, will start Tuesday

Posted at 6:54 PM on April 1, 2007 by David Zingler

After closing out a relatively tame spring training, the Twins unleashed a bombshell tonight when they announced the return of Brad Radke. Apparently, the former All Star has been working out behind the scenes and will pitch on Tuesday night against Baltimore.

The veteran signed a 1-year, $6.5 million contract, with several attainable incentives that could bump the total up to $9 million, his salary last season.

“I made up my mind fairly early on,” Radke said of ending his short retirement, “I knew I could still pitch and help this team win a World Series.”

Although he had been contacted by several teams, the 34-year-old told the Star Tribune that the Twins were his only choice. “It was basically here or nowhere. I spent all 12 years of my career in Minnesota, I can’t imagine playing for another team.”

This is obviously great news for the Twins, it solidifies the rotation and gives the start of the season some extra buzz.
