The Rochester Red Wings season is over and the Twins have completed their round of September call-ups. Sadly, Corky Miller is nowhere to be seen. In what has been (and will be) a depressing finish to the Twins season, the Cork man could have provided some much needed comic relief.
That being said, I feel we should honor his memory with one final Corky Miller update. Miller, of course, finished the season in Rochester, where he hit .229/.379/.465 with 11 homeruns and 25 RBI in 59 games. In eight minor league seasons, our favorite back-up catcher has hit .254 with 78 homers and 320 RBI.
In case you don’t remember (and who could blame you for that), the Corkster actually made the Twins opening day roster and went 0 for 12 before being demoted in early May. In parts of five big league seasons, the California native has posted a .193 (47 for 244) average and hit 6 dingers.
While we don’t know where you’ll be next year Corky – probably not in the Twins organization – we all (OK, just me) wish you the best of luck. Thanks for the (fuzzy) memories.
I hope Corky is with the Twins organization in 2006 playing for Rochester. We loved having him here with our team! He calls a great game, knows how to handle the pitchers and is fun to watch behind the plate. He is always willing to sign an autograph for a young fan with a smile on his face. He was a pleasure to watch in a Red Wings uniform! So get Corky signed up now!
Corky has signed with the Seattle organization.
Guess you'll have to find someone else for your entertainment.
