Taking what they're giving.

Well, it looks like the Twins finally won a series for the first time in a blue moon, taking two out of three from the Red Sox. They looked great on Friday night, clobbering Boston's iffy pitchers for 12 runs on 16 hits and getting three Web Gem-worthy catches from Lew Ford (I have no idea if they were actual Web Gems or not -- seriously, I've got to get cable one of these days). On Saturday, the Twins scored only three runs through the first eight, but that's actually pretty good for them, and they put themselves in position to take advantage of two Red Sox errors on two consecutive plays to walk off with a 4-3 win. Then on Sunday, they scored seven runs, but gave up 11 to lose the day game. So basically, they won one, lost one, and had one given to them on a platter by Boston, but hey -- never look a gift win in the mouth.

Especially when your team is about to embark on a nine-game series that will end up in Chicago's south side. Assuming they make it to the ballpark without the team bus getting jacked, Minnesota will face the AL Central leaders for the first time since April. There are 13 Twins-White Sox games scheduled between now and the end of the season, not to mention six Twins-Indians games and six Indians-White Sox games. The eternal-hope-springing fan in me is pulling for a few more gift wins in the next couple of months, but my inner pessimist -- not to mention the part of me that sees Matthew LeCroy batting cleanup -- suspects that it's going to be two months of the unbalanced schedule rubbing salt in Twins Territory's collective wounds.

Don't forget about the Indians. I must avenge my brother's forced retirement.

Oh. My. God. Enough with the stupid "going to Comisky will get you killed" nonsense!
