Over the weekend, the Twins lose a series to the Rangers, with the rubber match being lost on a walk-off ground ball. Sounds about right.
The Twins also dropped Joe Mays out of the rotation, sending Luis Rodriguez to AAA and bringing up Scott Baker, who will pitch against Kansas City tonight.
The bigger scheme of things, the Twins are now 5 1/2 games out of the wild card, with the teams above them (Yankees, Indians, and A's) not looking like they plan to give up any ground in the near future. Do the Twins still have a chance? Will the upcoming series against the Indians matter?

You knew it was going to be ugly, and it was: the two most offensively offenseless teams in the American League were matched up tonight, and while it took Minnesota 10 innings to really get anything going, it was still enough to beat Kansas City by a score of 3-1.
Under normal circumstances, starting a pitcher with a 5-7 record against one who's just been called up from AAA would be a signal to the teams' respective lineups that a slugfest was in order, but these are the Twins and the Royals, and both teams have made it clear that in order to get a signal like that, they're going to have to wrap aluminum foil around their antennas or something. To add insult to injury, the Royals intentionally walked Joe "Meeting Our Unfairly Inflated Expectations" Mauer not once, but twice, depriving us of the pleasure of watching one of the Twins' few reliable hitters at work. In the end, it fell upon Nick "Scrappy Doo" Punto to hit the go-ahead double in the 10th to win what seems like Minnesota's 237th extra-inning game.
Also: Scott "Babyface" Baker looked pretty good, giving up only four hits and one walk in seven innings. It'll be interesting to see how Joe "Bette Davis Eyes" Mays performs out of the bullpen, if for no other reason than it may determine whether we ever see Matt "Hey, Remember Me?" Guerrier again.
