The stadium deal will now head to the Legislature after the Hennepin County Board of Commissioners agrees on imposing a county-wide sales tax increase to fund most of the cost of the stadium.
The proposal also gives the Twins the revenue for the stadium naming rights. What are some possible names for the stadium that could bring the Twins some big money and boost their payroll?
Some ideas:
Northwest Flyover Park
Menards Lumber Yard
Target Center Field
Hormel Chili Bowl
Got any others?
Since it won't be a dome, you could probably call it DQ Blizzard Park (fitting at least a few times a year, anyway).
Ignoring, of course, the referendum in Minneapolis that said we didn't want more than $10 million in tax dollars going to any stadium deal, the Hennepin County Board of Commissioners has usurped taxpayer authority and passed this without our consent to subsidize a wealthy sports team owner. So I propose that we call the stadium:
Corporate Welfare Field.
Sincerely,
Chris Wright
I like the dome ideas for the DQ Blizzard Park. Perhaps a soft-serve-cone-shaped roof, or maybe that little clear plastic bubble with the hole on top where the straw goes...
Maybe we could name it:
Robin Hoodlum Stadium
(Steal from the poor - give to the rich)
Minnesota (dont)Care Stadium
(Take away health care and build a new ballpark)
Five Year Stadium
(About how long it will be before they ask for another stadium)
Mosquito Heaven
(No explaination required)
