Try using the other arm, Shannon

Posted at 1:50 PM on May 25, 2005 by Bob Collins (1 Comments)

Up until last night, I had no idea that Shannon Stewart had such a weak arm. OK, I knew he didn't have a great arm, perhaps not even a good arm. But last night he had an embarrasing arm.

It was when the Indians pushed across a run in the 8th to tie the game. Aaron Boone (Lord almighty, what pictures does Aaron Boone have that keeps him employed?) at second. Travis Hafner hit a rope that bounced directly in front of Shannon playing an average -- and I'm talking position on the field here -- leftfield.

There were two outs and Boone would've been running on the play but there is still no way that an average runner would score on the play unless the fielder had a significantly below average arm.

The throw, of course, was up the line, bounced and hit Boone in the back. Tie game.

We have been informed by Twins announcer John Gordon that there is now a new way to pronounce Justin Morneau's name. It is now pronounce MORE-no (as in, I've got enough yesses, not give me some "no") rather than More-KNOW.

For the moment, I'll ignore the oddity of getting correct use of inflection from the most over-affected announcer in baseball.
