Attorney General: Steve Kelley

SNAPSHOT
Sen. Steve Kelley's campaign for governor ended on June 10, 2006 when he lost what became two-person battle for the DFL endorsement during the party convention in Rochester.

But a few weeks later, he entered the race for attorney general, when the DFL-endorsed candidate, Matt Entenza, suddenly dropped out of the race. He faces several other high-profile DFLers in the Sept. 12 primary, including outgoing AG Mike Hatch's top deputy.

Kelley says the issues he thinks are most important in the attorney general's race are controlling health care costs, protecting ID security and privacy, and improving public safety. Kelley has sought statewide office before. He tried but failed to get the DFL's U.S. Senate nod in 2000.

Kelley lost the September 2006 primary, finishing about 4.5 percent behind the winner, Lori Swanson.
