- Congress could cut back on federally mandated student tests
Republicans in the U.S. Senate are considering changing the landmark No Child Left Behind education law in ways that could significantly curtail federally mandated student testing. | July 2014: Feds OK Minn. school accountability plan another year
- Saudi Arabia's King Abdullah dies; Witnessed a new era
Abdullah was 90 years old. He ruled Saudi Arabia for nearly 10 years, having assumed the throne after his brother King Fahd died in 2005.
- Unlike Mpls., St. Paul tow trucks target whole city

- Tommy Mason, Minnesota Vikings 1st draft pick, dies at 75
Mason's sister-in-law, Suzanne MacNeil, says Mason died Thursday at his home in Newport Beach, Calif. No cause of death was given.

The Hennepin County Attorney's office has charged a Farmington couple in a scheme involving more than $5,300 worth of American Girl dolls.
- King Tut's mask damaged after beard hastily glued back on with epoxy
Multiple sources report that during a routine cleaning last year, Tutankhamun's long blue beard snapped off the gold and blue mask.
- Doomsday Clock moves 2 minutes closer to midnight
Scientists moved the clock toward destruction because they are worried about climate change and efforts to modernize nuclear weapons stockpiles.
