Steven John is a newscaster and regular substitute host for MPR News. He came to Minnesota Public Radio by way of a long career in commercial broadcasting. His first on-air stint came in the mid-'70s, reporting school news in North Branch, Minn. At the age of 19, Steven took his first real radio job in Park Falls, Wis. In those early days, Steven kept his ego in check and earned rent money by cutting the radio station's grass. In a career spanning four decades, Steven has spun records, reported hog prices and done sports play-by-play. He, his wife and their two children make their home in Minneapolis.
