Sarah Lutman joined MPR's staff in 1999 and since then has held positions of increasing responsibility. In August 2005 she was named senior vice president, Content and Media, leading the regional and national programming divisions and serving as a key member of the senior staff. In her previous role as senior vice president, Cultural Programming, Lutman was responsible for the development of Minnesota Public Radio's new regional service, 89.3 The Current. She was also executive producer of the Peabody Award-winning American Mavericks series with Michael Tilson Thomas and the San Francisco Symphony. Previously, Lutman was senior program officer at The Bush Foundation, where she led program development and evaluation in the arts and humanities, public broadcasting, the environment and pre-collegiate education program areas. Lutman co-founded and edited the leading publication in the arts and cultural grantmaking field nationally, the Grantmakers in the Arts Journal. Earlier in her career she was a San Francisco-based arts manager and professional musician, with a history of involvement in innovative projects, particularly those that champion living artists. Sarah has served on a wide variety of boards, appears frequently as a public speaker and maintains an active interest in writing and publishing about the nonprofit sector and its role in society. She current serves on boards of the Citizens League (St. Paul, Minn.) and the Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra and is a member of the Minnesota Women's Economic Forum.
